The Free 7 Part Social Media Marketing E-course

\"\"Your social media marketing success depends on one thing, your ability to build strong relationships.

I’ve created 8 blogs since I’ve started my blogging career. It’s actually more than that if you count the blogs I never posted on. I’ve owned over 25 different domain names. I’ve also been a part of almost every social network out there. Well, all the big ones. I even joined Plurk when it first came out. I haven’t been back in awhile. I’ve interviewed millionaires who have a hundreds of thousands of people in their online communities. They don’t have any special secrets. They understand people’s needs.

Over these last 5 years I’ve amassed some timeless knowledge about building an online business. It all starts with your community. Learning how to build a community around your company\’s superpowers isn’t easy, but very profitable and rewarding if you do it right.

Old Me

The old me from a few years ago would hop on Twitter, Facebook and whatever else and just post links to my stuff. It’s what everyone did. I didn’t know any better. I used social media as a microphone.

A few years ago someone asked me a question about something I wrote on Twitter. I told myself I would reply back to them at the end of the day. Then it became the next day and the day after. Eventually I forgot about the person’s question and never replied back.

This happens to the best of us. An email slips through or a message from a potential customer. We can’t be perfect.

I would have forgotten about this completely, but I got almost the same exact question again about a year later. I realized the huge mistake I was making.

Smarter Me

That same exact question showed me that I was missing out on a huge opportunity to build a stronger connection and figure out what people needed from me. Billion dollar companies used to pay millions of dollars to find out what their community of customers wanted. Now anyone can email, hop on Twitter and/or Facebook and just ask their community.

I wrote a blog post about the question and now I have a place to send people when someone else has the same question. Now replying back to the next person was easy and actually fun. It meant that they would probably go to my website, check me out and want to build a relationships with me.

Building your social media presence takes time and effort. I’ve had to start from scratch and restart with a whole new business.  Each time I improve on my previous mistakes.

I don’t want you to make the same mistakes I did and you don’t have to.

Social Media Marketing

You have to do marketing that you are passionate about, gets you in the zone and plays to your strengths. If you hate writing and you are trying to build an audience on your blog by writing articles, you are missing the point of great marketing.

Do marketing that gets you excited. That means creating an online presence that encourages people to want to learn more from you. If you love talking then shooting short 2 minute videos or podcasts, giving tips away to help your customers is a great place to start. Once you figure out what works well for you that’s when you can start measuring your success and how to improve your conversion rates.
